Community Workshops

Sustainable Highland Park has begun free workshops on topics of importance and interest to our community. There are currently 2 series of workshops, and more series are planned for the future. When a workshop is scheduled, it will be announced in advance on our events calendar, social media, and in our newsletter.

Low-waste Workshop Series

Year-round series of workshops, each with an emphasis on waste reduction in some form. Topics for these workshops are based on the 6 R’s of waste-reduction (as consumers) : reduce, reuse, repair, refurbish, repurpose, recycle. Most workshops are SHP led; some will include guest speakers from our community.

Past workshops

In January we held a food waste reduction workshop on ways to use certain vegetables. In February, we hosted a Valentine’s Day craft workshop where we repurposed magazines into Valentine’s Day Collage Cards, and turned greeting cards into trinket trays and small gift boxes.

Future workshops

Later in the year we are looking to host repair-cafes, share composting information and resources, as well as more techniques to reduce waste in the kitchen.

Sustainable Skill Sharing Series

A year-round series where community members teach others the sustainable skills that they have.

In April, guest speaker Josephine Giaimo led a workshop guiding residents on turning their lawns into food gardens while using permaculture principles.

Let us know if you have a skill that you would like to share by filling out this form.
