On May 19, Sustainable Jersey announced the the winners of multiple grants supported by PSE&G. The event took placed at the Highland Park Senior Center. Sustainable Highland Park was awarded a $10,000 grant for a “Plastic Bag Reduction Campaign”. A broad based educational campaign will be advanced to reduce reliance on single-use plastic bags in the Borough. The Sustainable Highland Park plans to target it outreach campaign to resident and businesses. It will also explore how plastic bag bans and fees have worked in other localities in order to see if an ordinance is appropriated for Highland Park.
The Chair of Sustainable Highland Park, Teri Jover, has been appointed to the position of Borough Administrator of Highland Park. We would like to thank her for her leadership, hard work, and friendship for the past six years. Among the many accomplishment under her leadership has been the Silver Certification of the Borough with Sustainable Jersey. Among the 198 certified communities, only 45 have the Silver Certification (the highest level of certification).
Sustainable Highland Park meets at the Eugene Young Environmental Education Center on River Road as does the Environmental Commission, Shade Tree Advisory Committee and the Native Plant Society. You may have noticed some colorful changes.
